Officials with Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection announced this week intentions to apply to the US Environmental Protection Agency for primacy for Class VI carbon dioxide wells. This move, which could also include other types of Pennsylvania-based injection wells currently regulated by the US EPA, could significantly speed up approvals for Class VI wells, thereby advancing carbon capture and storage research and project approvals.
